Send a session to your watch or download it
Last checked 23 October 2026
Some buttons in this part of RIVL are only in Norwegian so far. They are written here as they appear.
Sending to a service account and downloading a file are different actions. A downloaded file does not confirm that the session has been sent to your watch.
In the app
Open the Coach session and tap Eksporter (export). The menu shows the options available for the session's sport:
- Sendes til kontoen din (sent to your account): Garmin sends the planned session to Garmin Connect. A connection is required; see Connect Garmin. Read the result message before treating the session as sent.
- Filer du importerer selv (files you import yourself): Hammerhead Karoo (.fit) for compatible cycling sessions and Kalender (.ics) (calendar). You must import the file into the receiving service yourself. The files shown depend on the sport.
For Karoo, download the cycling workout .fit file and import it in Hammerhead Dashboard. Check it there and sync Karoo. For Hammerhead account delivery, read the send status and check the recipient copy before retrying.
For Zwift, open the workout on getrivl.app, download .zwo from export and import it in Zwift on Mac/PC. Check the workout in Zwift before starting.
On getrivl.app
Open the session in the Coach plan and tap Eksporter økt (export session). Send til Garmin (send to Garmin) sends to an account; Last ned .zwo (Zwift) (download .zwo) and Last ned .ics (kalender) (download .ics calendar file) produce files you import yourself. Do not expect the same file options as in the app.
For a pure strength session getrivl.app only shows Last ned .ics (kalender) (download .ics) and the note that watch export for strength is coming. Do the strength session from the app.
A completed session
If you recorded a session in RIVL, open it in the app and tap Eksporter .FIT-fil (export .FIT file). This creates a file you can import yourself into a service that supports it. It does not connect an account or start automatic sync.
For a completed activity that should come into RIVL, see Services, sending and files.
How do I know it arrived?
For Garmin, sending to Garmin Connect and receiving it on the physical watch are two steps. On the web, the receipt says The workout was sent to Garmin Connect after confirmed account delivery. It explains where to find the workout and send it to your chosen device. Open Garmin Connect and look for the correct session before sending again. Then check syncing between Garmin Connect and the watch. RIVL's send message does not confirm that the watch received or can perform the session.
If you edited the session after sending, check which version is in Garmin Connect. Do not assume a previously sent session was updated automatically.
For a file, import it yourself next:
- Karoo: Open Hammerhead Dashboard, choose Workouts → Add Workout, then select the file. Use Hammerhead's import guide for rejection or further syncing.
- Zwift: Follow Zwift's .zwo import guide for Mac/PC. Downloading a file in RIVL does not connect your Zwift account.
- Calendar: Open or import the
.icsfile in your chosen calendar app. Check that the session actually appears there.
The option is missing, or sending fails
Check that you opened the planned Coach session, not an imported or already completed activity. The app hides export options unavailable for that session. Garmin needs a connection and a session with segments; the Karoo file needs a compatible cycling session. A visible web button does not guarantee the session can be exported either.
Read the message after the attempt. Fix any connection or sign-in error before trying again. If interrupted or unsure of the outcome, first check whether the session is already in Garmin Connect or the file was saved; do not keep sending merely because the watch is empty.
Still stuck? Contact support@getrivl.app with the session title and date, sport, app or web, export destination and error message. Do not send access codes or health/training files. For help with importing or receiving it in the service, also use that service's own guide.
