Connect Bluetooth machines
Last checked 15 October 2026
Some buttons in this part of RIVL are only in Norwegian so far. They are written here as they appear.
In the app you can connect training machines over Bluetooth and use them in Train now.
Add a machine
- Go to Profile and tap My devices.
- Under Legg til apparat (add a machine), choose rowing machine, SkiErg, bike or treadmill.
- The app looks for machines nearby. If the machine is asleep, wake it up. On a Concept2 rower, take a couple of strokes and the PM5 display wakes up.
- Choose the machine in the list.
The app remembers the machine. With automatic connection enabled, it can be used in later sessions; still check the connection in the session. You can turn off automatic connection for each machine, or tap Fjern (remove) to forget it.
On Android, the phone asks the first time for permission to find nearby devices. You need to allow it.
Which machines work?
Concept2 PM5 and machines that follow the Bluetooth standard for fitness machines (FTMS), as well as power meters and running sensors.
Heart rate strap
You don't add a heart rate strap here. You connect it when you start a session in Train now, with Søk etter pulsbelte (find heart rate strap).
Remembered does not mean connected
A machine shown under My devices has been added to the list. Open Train now and the machine step for your session. Check that you selected the right machine and read the connection status. Søker… (searching) or Kobler… (connecting) means the connection is not complete. Look for Tilkoblet (connected) and check that measurements arrive when you use the machine. A remembered name alone does not confirm a live connection.
No machines found, or unable to connect?
- Check that Bluetooth is on. If RIVL lacks Bluetooth access, allow it in your phone settings. On Android, permissions to find and connect to devices must be granted.
- Wake the machine, keep your phone nearby and choose the correct machine type before scanning. Tap Søk på nytt (search again) in the device list once the previous scan has finished.
- Select the right machine from the results. Check the session's connection status; an empty list alone does not mean the model is incompatible.
RIVL supports specific Bluetooth protocols; this does not guarantee every model or every measurement from a model. If measurements still do not arrive, do not treat the session as measured merely because a name appears in the list.
A heart rate strap is a separate choice under Søk etter pulsbelte (find heart rate strap), not a training machine in this list. Garmin and Strava accounts are not connected here either; see Services, sending and files. This device flow is in the mobile app, not on web.
Still stuck? Email support@getrivl.app with the machine model, iPhone or Android, the step that stops and the status or error shown. Do not send sign-in codes or training/health files.
