Import your training history into Coach
Last checked 16 October 2026
History import lets you upload earlier training data to RIVL. You need Coach access, but not an active training plan. How to get Coach access.
Import reads files you upload yourself. It does not connect Garmin or another provider account to RIVL and does not fetch new sessions automatically. New sessions need another export and upload, or a separate account connection.
Find the import
In the app: Open Training and find Importer treningshistorikk in the Coach area. With an active plan, you can also open Plan settings and choose Importer treningshistorikk. The card changes its text when an import is waiting, running or complete. The import buttons currently use the Norwegian labels quoted here.
On getrivl.app: Open history import. Sign in to your RIVL account. Without Coach access, you go to the Coach page first. Web import also does not require an active plan.
Choose the right file type
- Garmin «Export All Data»: Choose this for the ZIP archive from Garmin's full data export. Open Garmin's export page from the import screen, request the export and download the archive when Garmin sends the link. Keep it as a ZIP. It may contain training sessions and sleep, HRV, stress and daily data; RIVL reads the supported data actually present in the archive.
- FIT-filer fra klokke eller sykkelcomputer: Choose this for a single
.fitfile or a ZIP containing several FIT files. Export them through the manufacturer's app or from the device. RIVL reads completed activity files. Planned workout files, routes and settings files are not imported as sessions. This file type does not import sleep, HRV or stress from a Garmin export archive.
An account connection and a Garmin export are different entry points. A ZIP from Garmin's full export should therefore use the Garmin option, rather than the option for ordinary FIT files.
Upload and confirm
Open the upload step and read the consent before choosing Velg fil og last opp. Once the archive has been checked, you see a summary of what was found. Check the selected source and contents, then choose Start importen when ready.
A single FIT file can be up to 32 MB in the app. Larger FIT files can be put in a ZIP. For large archives, uploading on getrivl.app from a computer is the recommended route.
Follow the status or get help
Follow the upload and import from the same area. When complete, Se «Din historie» opens the history view. If the import fails, read the message. In the app, use Prøv på nytt; on the web, select the file and upload again. If the archive has the wrong contents or file type, correct it before uploading again.
You do not need to start a training plan to follow the import or open your history with Coach access. Import does not itself provide a subscription or renew one.
Read the privacy policy and Coach privacy information for data processing details. If you get stuck, contact us and describe where the import stops.
